Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encrypt the data exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to secure the data that site visitors submit on your website - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, and so forth. Any info they type in in any box on the site shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. In general, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be installed, which means the overall cost for your online presence will be higher. While this might not exactly be a problem for a larger firm, it might matter for a non-profit organization or a small online shop which does not generate big earnings if additional money should be spent. That is the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

A shared IP could be used for any SSL certificate, irrespective if you acquire it from us or from another dealer and regardless of the shared hosting service which you have on our end. If you acquire the SSL through us, you shall come across this option on the certificate order page in your hosting CP where you could also take full advantage of the 1-click automatic configuration option that we offer you. If the latter is picked in the SSL order wizard, our system will install and set up everything for you through the specially configured server shared IP address, so once you acquire and approve the SSL, there will not be anything else to do on your end. You can save the cash you will otherwise have to pay for a dedicated IP and the SSL will do the job in the same exact way, so any info the visitors submit shall be encrypted. The sole difference is that if you type the shared IP address instead of your domain within a browser, the website won't appear.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You could use a shared IP for an SSL obtained through us or through any other retailer with any one of our Linux semi-dedicated services. The setup is very basic and if you get the certificate from our company, you could also take full advantage of our SSL wizard where with simply several mouse clicks you could select the SSL to be installed automatically for the selected domain or subdomain on the shared IP address that is configured to be employed for this particular purpose. This option will save you time and efforts since you won't need to do anything after you approve the SSL via email, not mentioning the money you will save for the IP address on a monthly basis. Your site shall be protected and any client will feel assured that their info will be protected since using a shared IP address does not affect the proper functioning of the certificate and the only difference from using a dedicated one is that the IP can't be used as a URL to access your Internet site.
